OT- Desperate times call for desperate measures

In my area, the level of unemployment is very high and alot of negative things are happening.  People breaking into homes, armed robbery, etc. etc.  So when does the end justify the means?

I would never hold up a bank in order to feed my family.  I might steal from a grocery store though.  But what happens when you're unemployeed, can't find work and cannot support your family?  Here in my area, section 8 is not accepting applications and the waiting list for those already on it is years!

When does the end justify the means?  Is it ever ok to steal to keep your family from being on the street, or cold, or hungry?

I don't agree with it for any reason at one point when the kids were little we did what we had to survive and it didn't include stealing.  Sometimes we went to bed hungry but our kids never did.  We have even lived without electricity.  There is always something you can sell to get enough for bread and peanut butter if not offer to do odd jobs.

Me too.     I am so very fortunate.  If, by some catastrophic event, we lost our home or jobs we would be okay..... our family would help us without blinking an eye.    My children will never be cold or hungry because they are lucky enough to have a family that simply would never allow it.

I just don't know what I would do if I did not have that back up system.   I can't imagine.

Me too. We have a pretty good family and friend support system and we have had lean times. But I do not know what I would do if I felt that desperate. I don't think most of us really can.

That's not always the case.  What if you didn't have any food?  If things have gotten that bad?  There are kids out there who only get fed by the school system, and in the summers I cringe at what happens to those kids.

I agree with selling things,  but honestly, how quickly can you sell things?

Not ok but forgivable. An effort at other things should be given 100 percent, such as food banks, soup kitchens....
