When did you have this talk with your teen? Or when do you plan to? How did you and your spouse/co-parent decide who should have this talk?

Mine are 20 and 18 and never had the banana talk, lol.  We had the sex talk and abstinence and BC talk as well.  Everything was in one talk.

We have talked openly about sex since puberty age with our sons.   My Dh conducted the condom - Cucumber demonstration.  LoL.  He was the chosen one due to the fact that we have boys and we assumed they may be more comfortable with him, besides he has a lot more experience!!  (I did not even know condoms came in different sizes!)

How do you know that they know how to use them?

Like I said my ex could have given them a demo. My boys are older and my 22 year old used to live with a girl for 2 years so I guess (hope) he knew how. Not sure about the 18 year old. I guess I could bring it up some day and ask.

I'm not discussing bananas with the kids.  I never got that talk and was simply grossed out the first time someone told me about it.  What a waste of a good fruit.  We talk openly and often about sex in this house and started as toddlers.

I've had ongoing discussions based on their questions and maturity level.  My oldest was probably 14 when we talked about condoms, and birth control.  I never did the banana thingy but I did show her a condom and explained hot to use it and how it should be taken off properly.

We had on going sex education talks with our boys, starting  very young. The condom talk was ongoing from age 12 up. I never showed them but my husband might have. I know they did go the store more than once, looked at them and talked about them. We also had a great book in the bathroom that they read.

I like the idea of books in the bathroom!

I am concerned that when the time comes, my child will not know how to properly use a condom

and, if you put it over the skin, you just wash and peel as usual, with no waste
