Army Specialist Pulls Surprise Visit During Little Sister's Graduation (VIDEO)
If you've been wracking your brain for the best present a graduating senior can get, you might as well stop. Lindsey Singleton, Class of 2012, already has it. And she's already spent the past 10 months sharing sister Sara Singleton with the rest of the country as a member of the United States military. This gift she's keeping to herself.
Specialist Sara Singleton traveled all the way home from Afghanistan to surprise her little sister during the ceremony at Florida's Sickles High School. Get out the tissues, you're going to need 'em for this reunion:
See what I mean?
I think what hit me hardest was Lindsey's announcement that she didn't need a graduation present, because having her sister home safe and sound from her deployment was enough. It's the kind of statement you hear out of a lot of military families, and the kind a lot of selfish, materialistic teenagers (and heck adults) could use a lesson on.
Stuff is great. A new car. A laptop. Whatever you want to buy a kid. But there is nothing like knowing your family is there for you to give a kid the chance to succeed after graduation.
What gift is your favorite grad getting this year?
My daughter is graduating from 8th grade next week, but I am laid off from work, so money is tight. After paying for all her graduation expenses, I won't be able to afford to get her a gift.
That's very sweet and so dear to my heart.
As a military family there was always the possibility of DH not being home for graduation which was why we were happy that it was last year he deployed and not this year. Sure he missed the first semester of DS's senior year but will be here for graduation!
That's such an awesome surprise!
My dd will graduate from high school on the 5th. She's been getting gifts of money from relatives.
