I am so proud of my son! He went to see Rock of Ages with a few friends (midnight premeire)- actually it was the church youth leader, one of her DDs, & another female from the youth group. When I asked him this morning what he thought of it (because I really want to see it) he told me it wasn't worth my money to not bother & it was very inappropriate. He said had he known how inappropriate it was he would not have gone. And in the youth leader's defense- had she known I am sure she would not have taken them!

My hubby and I saw the live show in March at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood.  It was great!  But yeah, more for the nostaligic for the 80's crowd than for a church youth group!  My dh and I knew the words to every song (Loverboy, Nightranger, Bon Jovi, Journey - Oh Yeah!!!)  and we also laughed our butts off at some of the references (Bartles & James, Yugo's) But the teenagers sitting next to us didn't have a clue.  Your son does sound like a great kid.  It is pretty racy.  But I recommend to all those who listened to 80's rock.

Seen it twice and loved it. It was a party atmosphere in my theater. Most of the people were singing along outloud or standing in the aisles head banging. It was great! I Have adored Tom Cruise since 1982 and that isn't changing anytime soon. He had a couple years of crazy but I forgive him....lol
It brings me back to 1987... I do agree with the other posters about why the youth leader thought it would be an appropriate movie, especially with the gratuitous sex and alcohol.

I seen the musical as well. It was so good. I have to admit, I knew the words to all the songs as well and shamelessly sang along..lol

My 14 year old and I saw it yesterday and I will say that if musicals arent anyones thing then dont bother with it because yeah it would drive you nuts.  The music is awesome!!! Really really loved it! Cheesy and predictable story line too.

As for Tom Cruise.  Do not like the man.  Not quite hate, because hate is much too strong an emotion for me to be drained by.  That said? As an actor I respect him very much and thought as always, he's believable in whatever role he takes on and makes it his own.  Oh and yes he CAN and DOES sing.  If you know his voice at all then you know he does not lip sync!  Have fun and hope you enjoy it!happy

good for him but kind of weird for the youth group leader,I mean anyone seeing the previews could figure out it was not going to be a good thing for a church to do

I really want to see it! I'm thinking of getting my girl posse LOL together and going. Kinda surprised a youth group would have gone to it though.
