Most states have suggested ages and don't have a minimum age. Our state of Wisconsin suggest 12 but there is no law.
The minimum age here is 10, but 8 year olds can be left at home alone if they just got off school and their parents aren't home from work yet.
Ha ha ha ha you've got a stalker, you've got a stalker I don't you do you're gonna die I can sleep at night, neh neh heh heh. ~ Foamy
I don't have any idea. When they would get to the spring fifth grade if they were ready I would run a short errand after school.Dry cleaners or a quick item for dinner.Kind of like practice. After sixth grade they could babysit for neighbors in the evening for an early evening.Home before 10 :30.When they were ready they could work later. It also depended on my husband and myself if we had plans. The first few times they baby sat for others I stayed home so I could get there quick if there was some sort of serious issue .Never was needed.
No age or suggested age in PA. Parents decide when their child(ren) are able to stay home alone.
We have no laws about this in my state. I started allowing my kids to stay home alone in short bursts at 10.
O.k. at 12 in CA, but you still have to evaluate your situation. Teens with too much time on their hands can = trouble.
I am in Virginia and the law is quite weird on it. There is no "age" requirement but the child must be able to take care of themselves. In otherwords, you could leave a young child alone but if the police are called, you neglected the child. If something happened, you neglected the child. Otherwise after about 13 it's pretty much ok since they are able to take the babysitting course and be in charge of others.
