When you buy school clothes, how many outfits do you buy? How much money do you spend on one kid?
My kids are in Catholic school so they wear uniforms. When they started school my parents made a deal that as long as we kept them in Catholic school, my parents would buy their uniforms. Last year was a pretty expensive trip to the Uniform Store since my son had outgrown everything he had and my daughter went from wearing jumpers to kilts. (the kilt alone is $65) This year the only things we will need are socks/tights for DD a couple new shirts for DS and they will both need shoes. Gym uniforms are still good I think. Since DS now wears men's size shoes, those can be pretty expensive but we have found if we buy good shoes in the beginning of the year they don't need replaced unless they are outgrown. I am thinking I'll be looking to put out about $150 for shoes, socks/tights and underwear.
I don't keep track of the exact amount, but normally about $200 per kid. They get new shoes, new gym shoes and a few outfits from TJMaxx. They also get new clothes for Easter, Christmas, when they changes sizes, something gets worn out and a few good hand-me-downs. I don't feel the need to go all out a school shopping because they grow so fast, but I like to get them a few things so they are excited to start school.
This year they start school August 15th. I am not really keen on going big on school shopping because there summer clothes still fit. I would prefer to get them new shoes and a couple new shirts to start, then in the fall get them more stuff. My DH thinks this would be 'devastating'.... so I was feeling mean until I saw this post. We are on a budget so it will be interesting to see how it works out.
I don't do "back to school shopping". I buy my kids sneakers and a couple of t shirts. It's still warm enough for them to wear shorts at the beginning of the year. I buy jeans and long sleeve shirts when it starts to get cooler or as they need them.
During the back to school sales, I usually just buy some jeans, pants, and new socks.
My son still fits into boys clothing, and so I'll spend less than $100 on pants.
I just spent a little over $10 on new socks at Target since they're having a big sale on them this week.
