Bad timing...

I got called for jury duty.  It's not just one day but 2 seperate duties. The one is not during school so no problem with that. The other is the week before school starts & my husband will have to take off work or our kids will have to stay with our 13 yo all week.  Has anyone had this happen?  Any advice in how to handle this?

Can you farm your younger kids out to the houses of their friends for a day or two, and then get an afternoon sitter the other days, and your husband is just on standby if the plan falls apart anywhere? I would think alot of moms would be willinj to help. Plus there are likely teens who would be interested in the work - so perhaps your 13 y/o watches them in the morning, then the teenager comes for the afternoon.

Here in Mi the give you a call in number to call to see if you are needed, a few years ago my hubby got called for jury duty and he was a truck driver so he lost a whole month of work with out pay and he never had to serve.

Quoting atlmom2:

You may never get picked. I never have. I just got excused. Haven't been called in over 8 years now.

This is very true I have been on jury duty about 6 times and I only served twice.

I was able to be excused the one time I have been called since my youngest became a teen.I said it would be difficult with carpools etc.It may depend how many show up for duty. The judge may be more lenient if lots show up.
