Wisdom teeth

My son is having his wisdom teeth removed on Monday and was just wondering if anyone has gone through this with their kids already. Any advice on good foods to eat afterwards, I'm thinking jello and ice cream. Also what should I expect to deal with after the surgery, pain wise etc.

My 18 yr old had his removed in March.    He was really loopy when I brought him home and slept for a few hours.    He only took pain meds for a day, then was fine with advil.    No swelling.   It went very smooth.   My oldest was the same way.  He had his removed three yrs ago.

Most importantly, follow the instructions.   No straws, rinse with salt water, but do not swoosh..(that was the hardest part for my sons) and no excercise for a few days.

My sons ate:  Smoothies, yogurt, oatmeal, scrambled eggs, jello, ice cream, mashed potatoes, pudding, soup and stuffing.

Good Luck!

Ice packs for the first 24 hours. No drinking thru a straw, no sodas and nothing too hot. Take the meds when needed. I've had mine done and took care of hubby and DS when they had theirs done.

Soft foods and take meds as directed.  Ice packs for the cheeks.  Good luck to your son.

Thanks for all the good info. I went out today and bought some of the items that you all listed and am sure he will be just fine. Also made some chocolate mousse which is his favorite thing to eat anyway so I'm sure he will be eating a lot of it in the next few days!

I had mine taken out about 10 years ago.  One was impacted and they did surgery for 2 others because they were grown into the jaw.  Within a day I was eating normally.  First day I just wasn't hungry.

My DS had his pulled last fall when he was 17.  He was extremely tired from the anesthetic and meds.  Also,he made the mistake of eating too soon and threw up all over my car and his grandma.  He wasn't really interested for a couple of days after that.
