Never, never my teens either. I did get sent to the office for talking before. Heck, my parents were not even notified way back then, lol. It was all boys, never girls were paddled.

My 5th grade math teacher wacked hands with a ruler some. The "bad" kids when I was in school are nothing like the kids today. No kid would cuss a teacher, ever, at least none in my school. Kids wouldn't punch a teacher either. My dd had a boy in kindergarten punch a lady teacher.

I know of one state where it still is legal with parental permission, at least it was 13 years ago when DS was in Kind. They wanted our permission, we didn't give it.

No. They didn't paddle where I went to school in MA. I never heard of it until I moved to PA. At that time no one got paddled any more. My kids haven't been paddled either.

No, but I went to Catholic school, and some of those nuns were downright scary, LOL! All it look was a stern look or words from one of them to keep us in line. Most of the kids actually feared being sent to the principal's office too (also a nun).
My mother went to Catholic school in Cleveland in the 1940's and 50's, and remembers nuns whacking knuckles with a yardstick.
My husband went to Cleveland public schools, and public schools in Houston and San Antonio, in the 70's and early 80's, and remembers classmates getting paddled in all three school districts. I think Cleveland public schools banned paddling in the mid 80's.
I don't think that paddling is the answer to discipline problems in schools, but I do think too many kids today have no fear of consequences if they talk back to a teacher, and too many won't think twice about assaulting a teacher, either.
A columnist for my local newspaper did a series of columns, about 6 years ago, about problems in the Cleveland public schools - poverty, broken families, fights, gangs, teachers being assaulted, etc. She got deluged with phone calls and emails and letters after the columns ran, from teachers in the CMSD, who had been assaulted by students, but who said the principals of the schools refused to do anything about it, and the parents were certainly no help, either. That's just shameful! I remember an article just a couple of years ago about a high school teacher in the CMSD trying to break up a fight, and ending up with a broken neck, when one of the students attacked him.
My kids know that talking back to a teacher is not acceptable, and I absolutely would not be OK with one of them attacking a teacher! But sadly, too many parents turn a blind eye to their kids' misbehavior in school.

I never got paddled but corperal punishment was used...my mom sent a note every school year that stated if we ever did anything that warranted corp punishment she was to be called and would do the paddling if she agreed. My kids have never been in trouble in school...so no they have not!
