facebook friends....

My 11 yr old has the next door neighbor on his FB friends. I don't know how old the neighbor is , but he is in high school. Does anyone think it isn't appropriate for him to have this neighbor on his page? My older son is a tenth grader and I think my 11 yr old has several of my older son's friend on his list.

While I know some will bash for your 11 year old having a FB my son does as well.

My son has friends who are army brats and he was friends when they lived here and I only let him use it with me in the room. They play minecraft online and chat about whatever on there to do with games.

I would find out who this person is my son also has most of the gay community on his FB and he has his drama club on there! But our okay is because he is home-schooled and this is his outlet

your 11 year old shouldn't have a FB page it's against FB policy, so that being the case yes it is inappropriate for him to have anyone as his FB friend

I'm fine with any age having a FB, it is a great way to stay in touch with family, and yes, friends. Do they know each other? I mean if they do, even a little, why would it be inappropriate?

the high school friend probably just friend-ed your older sons younger brother because a lot of kids friend everyone...siblings of friends ,neighbors etc.

Keep an eye on what comes up on your younger son's fb from the older guys ,if it is inappropriate for a 11 year old then have him unfriend the high school guys.

I am assuming you are a smart mom, and if your 11 year old has a FB, your keeping tabs on it.  Thus the reason why you know about the neighbor and are asking the question.  As long as you continue, I don't see any problem with it.  Everyone has acquaintances as FB friends, so it's kind of our kids' intro to networking.  But of course with anything, there are dangers that an 11 year old may not be prepared for.  So it's all about supervision and teaching.  Not only about predators, but about what he posts about himself!

Believe it or not, my dd showed me one of the kids from her high school took a photo of his driver's license and posted it on Instagram!!!  He's 17!

You need to do what you are comfortable with.

I would be a little concerned because of content. The older teens post inappropriate things, and you need to decide if your son is ready to be exposed to those things.

My daughter is almost 13 and has one to keep in touch with her friends since we moved. Even those kids 12-13 post all sorts of stupid. My dd is required to make all posts with proper grammar, none of the lms crap, and no duck face pics or it's gone.

Don't listen to other mothers that are trasshing you for your kid to have a FB. All my girls do & they are 15, 14 & 11. My daughters only friend people from her school, high-school or they have met from basketball, softball or motocross. I have one too so, I check who they are friends with.

If she knows him well & is his friend, sure, why not let them be friends on FB?
