We make Christmas gifts. Last year my DD made soap for everyone. I made quilts for all the kids.

I learned to sew last year, and I sewed four Christmas stockings and a tree skirt, and then used the fabric scraps to sew a pennant flag banner. I was pretty proud of myself, LOL!
My kids and I have made clay ornaments together in the past. I'd love to make a quilt, but I don't have the skills or patience for anything that complicated.

I machine piece and hand quilt. I don't have a good machine so unless I am doing a small project I hand quilt.
My DD got a kit from the craft store to make soap. She fell in love with it. She wants to make it from scratch but you need lye and I just have not gone that far yet. Maybe this winter.
This year I am making one child her own apron, chef hat and pot holders, the oldest a quilted messenger bag and the youngest clothes for her American Girl doll.
My DD is into duct tape crafts and she will be making everyone pocketbooks and wallets for the men. She made one for fathers day for DH and he loves it so much he asks her everyday to make him a new one.

The nice thing about quilts is that they look complicated but really are very simple to make. If you can sew you can quilt. Ellonor Burns has a great book for beginners. It is step by step. Try making a small baby quilt with just squares. I keep saying I am going to make stockings and I have yet to do it. Maybe this year. Our sons adoption will be final so it's a great time to make them all new stockings. Thanks for reminding me.
