This time it isnt the older daughter, now it is the younger (11).  She is not a crier in the least but last night she was SOBing.  She is heart broken with the thought of her older sister not living here.

boy oh boy this is gonna be one tough year.  at least it warms the heart to know how close the family really is.

1 mom liked this

My kids went through that when #3 was leaving. He was the first to move away from home. My kids are super duper close, my older ones are very active in the younger ones lives. There is an 8 year age gap between the older set and the younger set and thought of brother leaving left them heartbroken.

However, my youngest 1 1/2 at the time was going to be the hardest. At that time she was closest to my son, so close that when she was sick he was her only comfort and would sit up for hours and hours just holding her. Never asked, he would just do it.

The day he left was hard, obviously the littlest didn't get the fact that he wouldn't be home, but within a day or two it was clear she was missing him. Thank god for Skype, he Skyped almost everyday and if he couldn't he made sure to at least call her on the phone, and if he didn't she figured out how to call him on mine. He was never to busy for any of them.

It's these times were technology is great.

agreed.  we are allowing the youngest to get her cell phone a year earlier than the others did.

It is a tough adjustment for some.    I am the youngest in my family.   I remember feeling very sad and lost as my siblings moved on with their lives.   The worst for me was when several sibs made other plans for Christmas.

It was an adjustment for my 14 year old dd when her older brother (5 years older) went away to college for the first time last year. They really look forward to breaks and the summer. Are also closer than ever, and yep love FaceTime on iPhone and iPod
