mommy/daughter trouble

Posted by   + Show Post
Hi, I am the mom of an 18 yr old girl (senior in HS) and I feel like she hates me. We have always gotten along. Suddenly this year everything I do seems to annoy her. She's a strait A student, in band, works part-time, seems happy, just not with me! My husband says I try too hard. Is he right?

You might be trying too hard.  At that age, she's breaking away - gaining her independence.  Time for her to be a person in her own right - and NOT have to share everything with you.

I think to a degree it normal. Both of you are thinking about her spreading her wings come June. I had a rough year with my oldest when he was a senior. I spent the whole summer crying. One day because he frustrated me to tears and the next because he would be leaving home.

You probably do try to hard, she needs her independence.  Back off and see where it goes.
