Did you know the man whom St. Patrick's day was named wasn't even Irish? He was born in Britian and was kidnapped at 16 and taken to Ireland as a slave. He was a shepard of sheep until he fled Ireland and went to France to become a priest. After becoming a priest he returned to Ireland and started many new churches there.
Ireland never had snakes so St. Patrick couldn't have rid the land of snakes. Many believe that snakes is a medaphor for pagans.
Did you know that the color that is actually associated with St. Patrick isn't green? It's BLUE! It was in 1798 that the rebellion took place and as a political statement the soldiers all wore green.
Interesting fact is that the longest running festival of St. Patrick's Day isn't in Ireland either. It's in Canada!
St. Patrick is the patron Saint of Ireland.
