A friend of ours ask if our 16 yr old can baby sit her kids. Her son is 10 and her daughter is 7. She will leave at 6 am and return at 2 pm. Neither one of us know how much my daughter should be paid. Please give me some insight. Thx in advance.

update

Dd will be starting Monday. It will be just some days during the week. She agreed to pay her $5 an hr. My friend work less than 15 minutes from home. Dd will be able to contact either one of us if there's a need.

thx to everyone for your advice

I wouldn't allow my 14yo to do it for less than $5/hour.

Google the rates for where you live. I'm not a fan of hourly wages so I'd set a daily rate. The kids are pretty self sufficiant so I would also keep that in mind.

Babysitters in our area charge $10.00 to $15.00 an hour.

My daughter charges $10 an hour unless there is more than 4 kids then it goes to $15. If the mom is supplying lunch, not expecting them to go anywhere other than the local park, etc, I would say $10. If the moms expecting your daughter to buy them food or take them out, then $15.

Is this just a one time thing?? If so $10 or more an hour. Heck I paid HS girls $6 to $8 an hour back 10 to 15 years ago for 2 kids.

I'd say for 8 hours and it appears that your DD will be responsible for feeding the kids breakfast and lunch then $8-$10 and hour would be fair.

I know right. After chatting with a few of my neighbors. This is the going rate for our area.

Where do you live Beverly Hills? Is this a one time thing or a daily thing? Maybe $5 per hour if it's a onetime job & a little less if it's a daily (like during the summer). Googling it in your area would be a good idea too.

I live in Cypress Texas. It's the going rate for our and several other subdivisions.
