Advice needed: Father's Day card or not?

DS (14) went with DD and SD to get Father's Day cards for all the men in their lives.  I told DS to get one for his dad (we are divorced since 2007).  He said he'd rather not.  (His dad hasn't gotten him a birthday present or a Christmas present in 3 years)  I'm torn, between doing the right thing (2 wrongs don't make a right, it's better to give than receive, etc), or letting him work it out on his own (he has every right to be mad at his dad, he buys stuff for himself (big, expensive things) all the time, so he's not broke, and even if he was, a $5 would be better than nothing, right?

What say all of you?

1 mom liked this

...as his Mom, you can only suggest him to get his Dad a card...YOU CAN NOT TELL HIM TO DO SO.....it is his business with him...specially if there is some issues between them...

I would let it go. He's 14 old enough to decide if he wants to get dad a card or not.

His choice. I always gave my DD the choice with her real dad and she always said no, that if he wanted her around he would have never left. I can't imagine ever FORCING her to do something like that. Not even as a 6yo when he did leave.

Let him decide he is old enough to decide on his own
