So here I am again, I really believe my 16yo ds had made a big mistake. Thought I am praying I am wrong. A quick background, over the last couple years ds has been testing our limits. He was smoking pot, cigarettes, drinking ( not all the time, mind you, I dont mean to make ut sound that way). He quit the football team, started dooing poorly in school. Telling us he cant wait till he is 18 so he can move out and do whatever he wants. He is identified acedemically gifted so it is very difficult to see him do so poorly in school and not care. Anyway, we layed down the law, tried some new tactics, took things away from him etc.
In the last few months of this past school year he made some big changes. He got a job, he improved his grades and passed all if his classes, he enthusiastically joined back up with the football team and is talking about doing wrestling again. We allowed him to get his drivers license and have his cell phone back, provided he pay for his insurance and his part of the cell phone bill. We want him to appreciate it. We told him if he gets a's and 'bs when school starts back up, we will paynhis insurance. Anyway, last night when he was at football practice I got some info that led me to beliieve he went to smoke pot before practice. We told him If he did he would loose the keys and his cell, I cant believe he would take the risk. But his behavior when he giot home from practice was very suspicious. Avouding eye contact with us, running up to his room instead of sitting to talk with us like usual. We are testing him this morning, and I hope to God we are wrong, bu we have been down this road before....sigh...we shall see.
I feel bad saying this, but I was pretty surprised when the test we gave him came back negative. I am very relieved. We are going to give him another test in a few days just to be certain. I guess he either didnt meet the person befor practice or he decided not to participate. See my info came from one of his friends texting my older sonsnphone instead of the 16yo. My 19 yo showed me the text that asked if he(the 16 yo) wanted to smoke before practice..
