NATIONAL KIDS TAKE OVER THE KITCHEN DAY

Sponsored by the Young Chefs Academy, September 13 is National Kids Take Over The Kitchen Day, an “unofficial” national holiday.

Kids and teens, across the country are called to “take over their kitchen’s” on this day using their favorite recipes and make a meal for their family!  (getting help or supervision from adults where needed)

The objective behind this mission of the Young Chefs Academy (YCA) is to empower kids and teens to become more actively involved in the planning, preparation and cooking of meals.  The YCA is fostering family bonds and actively fighting the battle against the many serious health and social issues related to youth’s eating habits in today’s time.

My oldest can cook a lot of things. He went through a phase where he had to be involved in every step of every meal. My daughter likes to do anything where she gets to crack eggs. lol My youngest is neglected in culinary matters- and he has no interest.

Ds1 likes to grill, but b/c he's 14, I still prefer dh be around to supervise. He just does chicken and steak. He also makes some delicious Red Velvet White Chocolate Chip cookies. Any other cooking he does is just Kraft mac and cheese, Tuna Helper, and prozen meals.

Ds2, 9, doesn't really do much on his own, other than reheat things in the microwave and toast frozen waffles, although he likes to help grill.

Dd, 7, likes to help, and can make a quesadilla and pizzadilla in the microwave.

Cook, my kids like to eat, lol. I try to get my 15yr old daughter to cook but she so scary but she will jump up to make some brownies or a cake. My 7yr old likes to make what he calls grill cheese sandwiches which he takes bread and puts cheese on them and throw them in the toaster oven as he is not allowed around the stove of course. my others are two young and my 13yr old boy just waits until the food is done.
