Are teenagers more open about certain things now?

Now, my parents knew when I was on my period because I was the biggest brat you've ever met.  I know about my girls because they discuss it with me!  The discuss everything with me.  Sometimes I just want to say Hey TMI! but I'm worried if I do, they will stop talking to me all togehter.  Any one else in this boat?  I mean I don't usually get the dish on boys and stuff but bodily stuff, it's all there.

We talk to our boys 17 and 11 about everything.

My son and I discussed masturbation when he was 12.   I bought him 20 cheap terry face clothes.  I maintain a large jar of Vaseline in his bathroom.  I suggested he drag the process out and make love to himself because women like extended foreplay and he would do well to get himself in the habit for that.

He came home one day to announce that he was watching internet porm with a friend on the friend's computer.  They were caught by his mom who went into a rage and the now-ex friend put all the blame on him.  Afterwards, he and I agreed that porn watching had better be a private activity....and what sort of porn is healthy and what is not.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat.

I think some times they do say to much.

My dd is very open with me about pretty much everything but I made sure to keep communication easy and open between us because I didn't have that with my mom when I was a teen. I didn't talk to her about anything when I was a teen.

Both of my kids have been very open with me. I'm glad for the most part. Some of the drama gets wearing, but talking about sex, friends she's worried about with eating disorder, cutting, drugs, alcohol all very open. Her period and body functions no issue I'm an RN this conversation had been going on since age 4 since we had no bathroom lock when kids little. The post about explaining masturbation details to my DS would have been IMO over the top and would not/did not happen. My son knew it was normal however.

I think kids are more open because parents are more open with their kids than they used to be
