Anyone's teen on antidepressants? What do they take? Was that the first prescribed medication or did they have other things first?

And she feels better? Mine was given Zoloft awhile ago but didn't like it. She was against it anyway . Now she is wanting something. We have a doctor appointment I was just trying to get an idea

After a year of talk therapy 15 year old DD was prescibed Prozak. It didn't seem to work. She's on week 3 of Lexapro so we'll see if this one kicks in and makes a difference.

I like her psychologists thinking, this medication isn't a way of life. She can be on it for a couple of years to get though the rough spots and after that ther ehas to be a serious reason she need to stay on medication. I personally like this thinking.

It was recommended to one of our daughters when she was 16. She refused and in time all turned out fine.

My 14 year old son takes Prozac, and yes, it was his first antidepressant.

It was reommended to my 12 years old son, he did not take it either.

At the end, he is doing well without it!!

The only thing that changed...which I think helped him was to be more physical active!

Best of luck!

My 17 year old was taking lexapro and it was working well but then she decided she no longer wanted to take medicine and just stopped. I can't see forcing her but then we started arguing all of the time and she decided she wanted something on her own. I took her to the doctor and she was put back on lexapro. She did not do well this time. Within a month she was more adversarial and ready to fight about everything. I took her back to the doctor and they put her on Zoloft and it has been wonderful. Our relationship has been great now. She is helpful and sweet. Just like she used to be.
