I know alot of time recently I have been complaining about my 17 year old. We decided to have him evaluated (mentally) and I am going to get him re-evaulated because I honestly do not believe that 1 hour is enough to dx a serious condition like they mentioned which if you live with him he displays no symptoms of.
Anyways, the good news. I learned a few things about the WHY he has done some of the things he's done. The stealing, the lying, the temper tantrums, etc. They make sense now. Doesn't excuse him from his actions but now we understand each other a little better and communication has been getting alot better.
He was even able to celebrate Christmas day with us. I was happy. He handled it well. Since all year he has been incredibly difficult to manage and has cost us a small fortune in repairs, replacements, etc. he received nothing he couldn't immediately use (he's still grounded). His sisters received laptops, while he received a VERY nice quilted wool blend coat. He handled it very well. We informed him that if he felt that he was going to get upset the best thing to do was to give himself a time out and excuse himself from the room. Better to do that and return when he felt better than to flip out and not be allowed to continue the celebration.
I am very proud of him. He is grateful for what he received, happy to have shared the time with the family and is moving in the right direction! Prayers please that this continues.
