Well, here we go again. There's always something 'newly' discovered with our 17 year old DD. She hasn't been the most honest child, quite deceptive at that. She's had her share of consequences and learned some hard lessons along the way. She's now a senior, and we've given her more freedom and 'trust' to a point, while still holding her accountable and enforcing curfew, no alcohol or drug use..etc. Last night she went to a dance. Was home by curfew. Even returned the 'extra' money that I had given her to go out to eat prior to the dance. (that's a first...change back!). Today, she went to work, and I often times go into her room to pick up her basketball uniform to wash (she washes her other clothes for the most part). I saw a 'Valentine' bag in her closet. If you have a child you trust...you don't snoop. Ours has NOT been trustworthy...so there has been need to search, sometimes, just to make sure things aren't going 'south'. Okay, so, I 'looked' in the Valentine bag...and there was a new can of 'snuff'. Now, I wondered why that would be...if she has a BF we don't know about who uses it, or she does? It was sealed, I left it alone. I also wanted to wash her new dress I bought for the dance for her...delicate cycle. I couldn't find it, but saw a duffle bag on her closet shelf up high. I knew it was the bag she took along last night to her friend's house to get ready, so I thought it must be in there. Sure enough...it was...all crumpled up. I did NOT remove the dress, because, I saw, yet ANOTHER can of snuff...opened. Now, what would any of you think about this? Nobody in our family uses the stuff or smokes...so what is the draw, or might it be someone elses's? She can't buy it legally, even. I don't know how to address this...or should I. I might say....I wanted to wash the new dress you wore last night but couldn't find it, then I remembered I saw you take your duffle bag along so I thought it might be in there and I FOUND snuff in the bag....what are you doing with snuff??? Give me some ideas. I wasn't really looking for any more 'issues' to deal with, but dang it....this causes cancer, too....or are kids using it for a different reason now that I don't know about?
