I think it depends on the child, the specific social media and how involved the parents are.

Under the age stated as the minimum age in the terms and conditions.

My son had to wait til he was 13 for fb because that's what the rules were. I will make the girls wait as well.

I don't have an "age". Cait had to wait till 16 for any social media - and depending on their maturity is when the younger kids will have social media.

I agree that it depends. Elementary school is too young. In general I disagree with giving kids smart phones until at least middle.

I think until they are at least in 6th or 7th grade they should not be on there. I also think it's important to be honest with them and show them not just tell them dangers out there in cyber space. Recently there was a tragic story about a teen using Kik that ended up getting murdered. I saw it and talked about with my kid.

I think it depends more on the child. None of mine are on any kind of social media, my oldest is 14. He's not interested, though we would be fine with him having a facebook account.

Not before middle school was my rule. Dd1 has a Facebook. No instagram, snapchat, or twitter.

I basically run her page. She doesn't post. She says social media isn't her thing. Which is how my dh is.

Dd2 who is 8 is begging to tweet with her friends but that's not happening.
