What faze is your teen in?

So what type of teen is yours? Is your teen a punker, Gothic, loner, cheerleader, jock? What do you think about their faze they are going into? 

My 16 yr. old is between a skater and a punker. I am ok with it. He is really good skate boarder and he plays the guitar really good and wants to be a punk star some day. The drugs and stuff has got into it but not to bad. I think drugs would be a issue just about any faze they go through.

My son is into skateboarding and he's teaching himself to play guitar.  He's always loved the whole skateboarding thing, and about 2 years ago or so, he asked for and recieved his first "good" skateboard.  He's torn it all to hell now, but he and his friend have a blast skating in front of our house.  They are getting better at it, and really seem to have a good time.  I think he has an inner rock star that wants to come out, too...hence the guitar playing.  I'm proud of him that he's taking it upon himself to teach himself.  My cousins did it, and I'm sure he can as well.  If not...my brother and all my male cousins play guitar, I'm sure they'd  teach him a few things, lol.

They have been the way they are since Junior High so I wouldn't really call it a phase for them. My 18yo is a mix between a jock (football & track), computer nerd/gamer and a drama geek and my 17yo is a mix between jock (football, track and power lifting) and  academic nerd (he has a 4.0 GPA). They are both really focused on college  and just about everything they do has that big picture in mind for them. They are both pretty level headed kids so I don't mind the direction they are both headed in.

My daughter is uber smart. She's in advanced classes and special programs at school. But she's always hung out with quite a mix of kids. She can blend in anywhere she wants. She's got a kind of goth look every once in awhile, loves the vampires and all the Twilight stuff, but she also likes that darn emo crap as well. She's mostly just herself.

My son is a bit of a mix: gamer, punk rocker, musician, band geek.  LOL.

He spends ALL of his free time playing computer games.  His favorite music is punk rock.  He's taking guitar lessons outside of school and plays trumpet in the school band.  He was just recently chosen to represent his school for an Honor Band that is put together by the music school.

My daughter loves Country Music which is perfect for me, since I do too!  At her age I was all about the hard rock bands, so I feel very lucky that she enjoys the "safer" style of music.  We are going to CMAFest this year in Nashville.  It will be a great opportunity for some Mother/Daughter bonding!

Mine are more on the rocker side.  They listen to heavy metal.  They are definitely gamers.  I have always let my kids express themselves and it's never gone over the top.

I think heavy metal is what my kids and I bond most over! Our "new" favorite is Trivium. But we love the "classics" too, like Judas Priest and Slayer! :)

I love sharing the "old" stuff with them.  My 11 yr old LOVES Slayer.  My 16 yr old is on the "softer" side of metal and likes the Scorpions, Megadeth, etc.  My 7 yr old is into the newer stuff like lamb of god, Tool, Slipknot, it's crazy that a little dude like him would enjoy listening to that stuff.

My son is a jock/gamer; his passion is soccer.  He likes a lot of current music, and we have recently bonded over the songs on his Guitar hero game, which has a lot of stuff from the 70s and 80s on it (he even downloaded Hotel California on his ipod!).  I wish he was more academically focused, but I'm thrilled with who he is just as he is, because he's not a trouble maker, and he's happy most of the time.
