At what age do teenagers stop trick or treating?

I'm just really curious if everyone's teens are still planning to trick or treat. My 14 yr old stopped when he was 12, because he felt it was demeaning to beg for candy. My 16 yr old goes with friends, but didn't take any candy last yr. I've always taken them since they were small, even though I don't like Halloween or trick or treating, but I'm actually relieved I don't have to do it anymore. My friend doesn't like to open her door to the groups of high school kids who come at night, because she doesn't know who they are and what their intentions are, while another says her neighbor gets nasty and tells the highschoolers they're too old to be trick or treating.

Why not have a halloween party? Keep your teen entertained and yourself stress free. I have never stopped going out on Halloween, when I was young I took my younger siblings then my own kids. My youngest is eight. I suppose someday I will take my grandkids lol. Never stop having fun life should be fun.

my boys are 17, 13, and 10   and the only one that still goes is my 17 yr  old... he goes with his group of friends and they "theme" dress.... last year they went as
The Lost Boys....    anyway, I figure if people don't wanna give candy they can tell him no, and USUALLY they only go to friends and family's houses anyway to show off their costumes.... my middle son has NEVER liked going.... my youngest was all about it until he turned 9....

Thanks for the great post.  My kids are 18, 15 and 14.  My 18 year old was just adopted from Ukraine and has only gone trick or treating one time, last year.  They are thinking of just going to a few of the close neighbors houses.  I am thinking that this is their last year.

My twin boys are 17 years old.  They usually go out with a few of their friends in our neighborhood.  And, they stick to just our neighborhood. They always dress up as really cool ghouls.  They always make sure they're not over-running any little ones.  And, they try hard not to spook the little ones either.  If there's a group of little ones, they'll hold back until the group has moved on.  I have to say, that really makes me proud of the guys!

I agree...older, but it was more fun to dress up and walk around with friends rather than getting candy and stuff. I think it's all for fun.

Both my 12 year old DD and my 16 year old DD still trick or treat. With all my other kids, I let them choose when they wanted to stop.
