I have my first appointment with my new midwife today at the birthing center. I was supposed to have another unnecessary ultrasound today and an OB appointment but I've decided to just not show up. I had a horrible appointment last time so I just know if I even call to cancel I'll end up losing my temper then break down into tears (darn hormones lol). This is going to be my first birth out of a hospital setting (and probably last baby as well) so I'm really excited to finally get the chance to do what my body was designed to do without a doctor trying to keep me on his dinner schedule. I haven't met this midwife yet but when I toured the birth center I met the head midwife and I've she was really sweet so I'm confident my midwife will be great. I'm just soooooo excited lol. My appointment isn't until 4 but I'm itching to get showered and dressed and wake the hubby up now hehe. I don't have a question or anything, just wanted to share my excitement.

That IS exciting! And a big fat booooo on unnecessary U/S! I'm so happy you love your birth center and I hope you lose your midwife, too! I think it'd be hard not to love a midwife, since they SHOULD all be, as my midwife put it, "Low-intervention, High touch" Good luck!

The appointment went very well. I didn't get to meet the doctor because she's out on vacation right now but my midwife and her apprentice were both very sweet and patient. I had my husband and 2 younger kids with me and my midwife never once acted like all the noise or activity was annoying like my old OB would have done. Due to my history of miscarriage and 2 c-sections they want an OB to co-manage my care just to help avoid any complications but I figure that's ok since I'm lucky they even agreed to take me on as a patient given my history. They are going to see if they can find a more "natural" OB to co-manage for me since everyone I've called so far has said I'm too high-risk for them to consider going natural. All in all though the appointment went well, they listened for the baby's heartbeat and checked my fundal height and just spent the rest of the time chatting with me and getting to know me. That alone is MUCH more than my old OB ever did, he always just walked in checked the heart beat then walked out, his nurse did my wieght and bp and that was it. I'm very happy I chose to give the birth center a try even though I worried they would tell me no like everyone else did. I can't wait to give birth there!
