Could anyone give me an idea of how a normal steering meeting is run? Are minutes taken? What is normally discussed? How is the meeting run? Who is the ultimate authority? Sorry I am really green and need information.
Thanks
Our steering in very informal as we are not a big team. We typically begin with prayer and then discuss the upcoming meetings for the month(the group meet 2 times a month). We discuss who the speaker is and what she will be sharing or we preview the video and the discussion questions. We make sure that the crafts are arranged - supplies, directions, etc We make certain that the refreshments are covered. And finally, the other dates planned are discussed -(mommy and me outings, moms nites outs, etc)
If we were larger we probably would use more of the curriculum that is available for leaders. But being a small group, we try to encourage and challenge each other thru our relationships that will more than likey last beyond the MOPS years.
Being the coordinator and the sole member of the ST that is a member of the chartering church, I ultimately have the final say about things as I also have an obligation to the the church whose name and reputation is attached to our group. We really try to work together and share ideas as a collective body.
Lots of larger groups have each ST member give a report and tell what is happening. We are less formal. We typically meet over coffee while our kids play in the other room. We don't meet long at all usually under an hour once a month and we don't keep minutes- other than some notes as to who needs to do what before the next meetings.
I don't know if this helps - what I have learned is that each group and each ST is different as our needs and situations are different. But prayer and keeping focused on your mission and purpose is critical.
Blessings,
Mary lynn
All the best with your leadership time in Steering.
Praying is good.
Understanding the verses for this year is good (Ephesians 3:17-18 and surrounding verses)- grasp how much God loves you, gives you his Holy Spirit, and strengthens you for His task. When we are secure and know that we know of God's boundless love for each of us, we have the confidence to step and do great things with God. This brings unity in diversity, because you understand the big picture.
Check out your MOPS handbook, the coordinator's handook and positional handbook. They can be downloaded free at www.mopsleaders.org/handbooks (get the password from your coordinator or area coordinator).. A new coordinator's group kit is also good for you for a quick overview of the vision and mission of MOPS : www.mopsleaders.org/readysetgo.
Have fun being part of the team,
Secure in God's love,
Our steering team has 12 members. We meet once a month. We have a devotional, then discuss upcoming meetings, any concerns we need to address, and then we take prayer requests and pray over them. It almost always takes us 2 hours. I guess we must be talkative. LOL. Our coordinator takes notes, but we don't have formal minutes.

Dawn
Our meetings begin with a Bible study for the Team, then we follow an agenda set by the coordinators. They take notes. A previous coordinator sent out updated copies of the agenda with all the notes attached, including decisions and such. Our current co-coordinators don't do that, but still take notes (not exactly minutes, but pretty accurate since those notes help us all do our jobs better). Because I run Publicity (and the newsletter) I take pretty accurate notes as well.
So our meetings take about two hours, including the Bible study and prayer time at the beginning. Our study is run by our Mentor.
Hope this helps!

Yep this pretty much sums up our meetings too! We don't have 12 team members but we still can make a meeting last 2 hours LOL! In January we will have two of our steering leaders leaving us so we will have to discuss the replacement officers in our next meeting.

Only 2 hours?! We are a steering team of 8 and even if there are only 5 of us there, our meetings can go a good 3 hours or better! We must be REALLY chatty! And our meetings are basically the same as above, too. We do have one person in our group who emails us minutes from the meeting to make sure we all remember what we agreed to do for the next meeting or any upcoming events.
