Pregnant with my 2nd and wanting a natural childbirth this time around. advice needed!
Hey Everyone!
I am 21 weeks preggo with my second baby. Although I know it is still early...I am thinking about going about this delivery the natural way. With my son (who is almost 3!) I relied on the epidural to help me through the pain so I got it as soon as they said I could. However, my labor stalled around 8 cm and my epidural ended up wearing off....even when they gave me a "refill" it wouldn't take. SO i was in a lot of pain and since that was the only form of pain management I had in mind...I didn't take into concideration the fact that it may not work. So I felt like I was spiraling out of control. Confined to a bed, in pain, (in agony really) I didn't know what to do.
This time I want to be IN CONTROL of my own labor and childbirth....So I feel that if the epidural wore off the first time... and I wasn't prepared.... I want to be prepared better for this labor/delivery. I want to go about it the natural way . However, if I can't bare it at all... I will try the epidural again....but I want to get it at the last possible minute (whenever the latest they will let me) so I can get some rest (hopefully) and strengthen up for the birth. but the plan really is to go all natural.
Did anyone else feel this way? did you do a natural childbirth the 2nd time around because of a bad experience the first time? If so... any input and advice is greatly appreciated. What do I need to be doing now to prepare...and to get in the right mind set so I don't totally freak out when the time comes like I did last time?
Thanks mamas!

Hello! I felt this way when I was pregnant with my son, for the first time, and I didnt take action until I was 7 mths pregnant. Because I watched the movie "The Business of Being Born"-with Ricky LAke, great movie and very inspiring. It sounds like you pretty much went natural with the first, so I totally support your decision the second time around. Keep in mind that this is going to be your second delivery, and so your first delivery paved way for the second time around. It could go by quickly without the need of an epidural. It's great that you want to be in control, and that's definitely the whole purpose of natural birth. What I did to help me, was with one of my midwives I went into the practice of Hypnosis. What a way to practice self control of your mind and body. I used this technique while I was in labor, mind you I was in labor for 60 hours! This technique helped me throughout the whole time. I just wish I could have started the hypnosis earlier to continue practicing. Here is the link and this is exactly what I used for my hypnosis: www.hypno-beginning.com Yes it's expensive, but I had energy to continue with my labor. Hope it helps!! Good luck.
Congrats!!! With my first baby, I had intended on a hospital birth and didn't even transfer care until I was 34 weeks!!! In the mean time I had been reading a book called The Joys of Natural Childbirth. It is a very old fashioned book - broken into 2 parts... the first is a story and the second is all the facts. It was an amazing book. In fact, I read it again for my second. I highly recommend it!! Good Luck!! Please, let us know how it goes.... maybe even a birthstory to post on the website!!!
