Hello Everyone! I recently came into this group, and maybe I missed it somewhere or earlier on, but I wanted to find out about everyone's Natural birth experience, whether it was the first or 5th time! I think it's such a wonderful experience, and wanted to get insight on any stories they may like to share.
Since I iasked the question first, I will go ahead and share my story:
Hi there!
this forum kind of has moved to this place.
All my births were natural, here is my last birth, this is the birth of my twins,
And welcome to the group!
I was 23 years old, going on 24, when I first found out I was pregnant last August. I was just being the "typical" pregnant mother-to-be, watching what I ate, reading "What to Expect when Expecting" and living day to day. The thought of a natural birth crossed my mind early on, but I never sought more information, just left it at that. During my 7mth, my husband and I rented a movie on Netflix "The Business of Being Born"- with Ricki Lake. And instantly, the thought of having a natural birth came back, and my husband and I were so excited with the thought of a homebirth. I began my research instantly, reading different websites, watching more and more natural births through youtube. Finally I came across a website that had midwives in our area, and instantly set up an appointment. We fell in love with the two Midwives who were the only one's close to our area. A completely different world on pregnancy. I began doing my check-ups with them regularly and loved learning something new at each visit. I felt completely informed and free to ask any questions. I even began taking a hypnosis class with them to use during labor.
April 4: My first Saturday after I began my maternity leave, I thought I had one week until my due date. I'm in my home, alone as my husband was underway on a Coast Guard Cutter, and I'm practicing my hypnosis. 8pm roles around, and I feel this awkard feeling in my stomach, instantly I knew it was a contraction. I do nothing, and just let my body take over. I turn off the light and go to sleep.
April 5th:12am, a stronger contraction, this time I start to time it, about every 20 minutes. 4am: the contractions get stronger, but I'm not scared, I just do my hypnosis. 7am: I call my midwife, she says she's coming over. I begin calling my family, who lives 3 hours away, and they are on their way. My midwife comes, checks the heartbeat of the baby, on me, and checks to see if I am dialated, I am only 2 cm. Now I feel the pain in my back. My midwife continues to check throughout the day and I haven't dialated much, at the end of the night I am only a 4. Finally my husband arrives at 11pm, he hasn't missed much.
April 6th: Still more back labor, the contractions have gotten stronger. My water has not broken even, my midwives wait to break it, and are constantly monitoring me and the baby and our blood pressure's are normal. I am constantly going in and out of my bath tub, taking showers, practicing my hypnosis, and dancing with my husband, yes dancing lol. By this point I am ready to have the baby, the midwives warn me that if this continues we may just have to go the hospital and most likely they will conduct a c-section. Still my heart says this natural birth will happen.
April 7th: 12am-my water breaks, the midwives come in to check and I have dialated to a 6! Now my midwives say I have a window of up to 12 hours to have this baby or off to the hospital we go. By 9am I have dialated 8 cm, and at this point my husband and I are anxious, and very nervous, but we still have hope. We sit in our bath tub and begin praying and talking to our unborn son to come out. 11am: I start pushing, he is slowly coming out. The midwives ask me to reposition myself on the bed, doggy style, my husband and I start a "tug of war" where he pulls on one end of a towel and I pull and push on the other side which definitely helps. Around Noon time I see my son's head, and by 12:46 our son finally comes out, with his left hand in his face! Instantly my husband is assisted in helping "catching" the baby and he puts our son on my bare chest and we wait for his cry, and look at him at how beautiful he is! He lets out his cries and instantly I give him my breast, and he takes it. My midwives wait until the umbilical cord has stopped pulsing before cutting it, and my husband does the honor. I ended up tearing a bit, nothing that required stiching, and held my baby boy for the longest time, Leonardo is his name. We calculated 60 hours of labor! And all natural birth :) It was welllll worth it!
