MILWAUKEE - Due to a class-action lawsuit, some of the top name brand cosmetics that required top dollar won’t, at least for a little while.

Starting next Tuesday at Dillard's, Boston Store, Macy's and at other stores nationwide, Chanel, Loreal, Clinique, Lancome and other labels will be free.

"They're full-sized products. It can vary from a mascara to a body lotion," Boston Store cosmetics regional manager Julie Dunn said. "We are scheduled to have this up and offered through Jan. 27, however, the supplies will be as they last -- one per customer as supplies last."

Customers can choose one product from about 10 different brands. The products include make-up, lotions and perfumes.

The lawsuit accused several cosmetics makers and department stores of price-fixing.

A group of consumers sued and the two sides settled on a plan to distribute $175 million worth of free products.

A Web site

, informing customers about the deal said it applies to shoppers who bought specific products, at specific stores between 1994 and 2003.

But retailers will “take people’s word for it” and no one will have to prove they qualify to get the deal.

While it’s a great deal for customers, it might make for a good deal for retailers, as well.

The retail sector is reeling with what’s being called the worst holiday season in 40 years.

The deal gets shoppers in their stores, and managers said they see it as an opportunity.

If you want to get in on this you better move like today!!  One of my clients at school works for Boston Store's cosmetic counter and she told me yesterday that this is going on this week.  Yesterday the Boston Store at Southridge gave away 3400 pieces of product.  Each store is stocked with 6500 so you better get going.  My client told me that yesterday the line at Mayfair went from the cosmetic counter all the way to the food court.  Good luck!!

Shut up!!!  Are you serious?!  Whoa!  If it's like that, I wouldn't even bother.  Not for just one product.  But...it is a good deal if you don't have to stand in a line that long.
