Do you prefer to use buttercream or fondant? Do you like one over the other? If so, which and why? My next post on equiptment will cover an item for fondant users or one for buttercream users. Leave me your comments and wait to see my next equiptment post! Thanks for participating.

I like to see just how far I can push the buttercream. I'll try something in buttercream first before I try it in fondant. Just because most people tend to look at fondant and say "Oh thats pretty" then peel it off and only eat the butter cream and cake that's underneath. I hate putting time into something that's gonna end up in the trash instead of eaten.
You will love the rolled buttercream recipe. It is a lot like fondant but is shinier and doesn't dry out as fast. I will be posting some things that you will REALLY be interested in. Thanks for commenting.

I'm looking forward. I've been trying to look in as close to everyday as I can. I'm still not really getting orders, things are going slow here. People think I'm weird or something but its ok. I have an anniversary coming up so hopefully I'll have a cake photo from that to post before long.
Do you have a storefront in GA or are you working out of your home? What are you doing to promote your cakes in the area?

I like both. I love to pipe and decorate with buttercream. I also like to bring thing alive with fondant. I never tried rolled fondant myself but I do have the recipe.
How r u ladies doing? I know its been awhile my computer has been acting crazy.
I am doing well. Hoping to get my newest post up tonight and working with buttercream icing! Be watching for it :)
I think all of you have waited long enough! This post is for those of you who would like some more ideas and uses for buttercream. I follow a wonderful site http://www.davidcakes.co.uk/ David is amazing. Having made all of the Royal Family's wedding cakes over the past 30 years he displays some amazing techniques. He has just put out his first DVD that I just so happened to get my hands on for my cake competition coming up in Oct. I highly recommend this awesome DVD. He shows a great technique that he does in European royal icing but I have done in buttercream. My new favorite way to ice a cake is doing palette knife painting. This technique is on his DVD as well as his website and his You Tube Channel for your viewing. The icing is not smooth by any means and all decorating is done with only a palette knife...no piping bag or tip required. It is a new "funky" technique that I am sure all of your clients will love!
Check out this palette knife decorating video on You Tube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zV9_mZHuyjc
Give it a try, you will love it!
I wish I could do storefront! Our finances won't allow for it right now. I was looking into day cares and about to start putting in applications at some of the bakeries and cake shops around town so that I could work and still be able to do what I like doing but I'm pregnant with kid number 2 and he's not thrilled about the idea of me working now since I would just end up having to give it up. Right now its just word of mouth and I've only been doing them for the people on our street and a few friends I've met on here who's husbands are stationed at the same post mine is. So far I've not done anything to show off. Just a couple of sheet cakes that say Happy Birthday So & So with a couple of flowers or balloons and some playdate cupcakes. Nothing challenging or fun.
