"Sweeter even than to have had the joy of
caring for children of my own has it been to me to help bring about a
better state of things for mothers generally, so their unborn little
ones could not be willed away from them." ~ Susan B. Anthony (1889)

Girl, 14, kills self because boyfriend wants their child aborted
Thursday, May 31, 2012
“IPAKUHA nang bata (Have the child aborted).”
This was the demand of 17-year-old George to his 14-year-old girlfriend, Juliet, three days before she was found dead in Compostela town, her friend told police. (The real names of the minors are withheld to protect their identities.)
Juliet, who was two months pregnant, told her friend she did not agree with her boyfriend, a neighbor.
“Kon ipakuha man lang may tag magdungan mig kamatay sa akong anak (If he wanted abortion, it’s better that I die together with my child),” the friend quoted Juliet as saying.
Juliet lived with her aunt when her father went to work in Manila. Her mother passed away, said investigator PO2 Arni Goc-ong.
Last Tuesday, around 10 a.m., Juliet was found by her aunt lifeless inside the comfort room of an abandoned house in Barangay Basak. The incoming second year high school student hanged herself with a rope.
Goc-ong, in a phone interview, said there were no signs of foul play involved in Juliet’s death. But he said they advised Juliet’s relatives to let the girl’s body undergo autopsy.
Aside from looking into Juliet’s supposed pregnancy, Goc-ong said it is also a possibility that the girl took her own life after she was reportedly scolded by her grandfather.
“She used to come home late,” he said.
Before she was found dead, Juliet prepared dinner last Monday. She later disappeared, the aunt told Goc-ong.
Her aunt and cousin looked for Juliet but failed to find her.
The next day, the aunt went to the comfort room of the abandoned house to relieve herself and found Juliet inside.
“Diin diay ka gikan? Gabii pa mi pinangitaay nimo (Where have you been? We were looking for you since last night),” she asked Juliet.
When she touched Juliet, she was cold. She noticed her niece’s face was pale and a rope was tied around her neck.
She shouted for help.
