So, I made this for a friend who has tall boys like I do.  My thought process...one cover for my toddler and for my baby boy so that I don't have so much to carry in a diaper bag and so that I can find the right cover when needed.  I used the RRP and added 2 inches to it - 20 inch rise total and there are 3 adjustments so it fits 17 inch, 18, 19 and 20 inch rises.  (Like the Thirsties Duo.)  I think the waist is 15 1/2 - 25 inches.  I kept making adjustments, so I'll have to measure my pattern again.  This was my 3rd attempt at using fold over elastic.  The gussets were fun to sew too!  I think it worked out.  I can't wait to try it on both of my boys when they wake up and if no more adjustments, will give it to my friend tomorrow.

Anyway...I'm sharing because I'm proud of it, but would also welcome constructive criticism. Do you see anything in these pics that you might adjust other than minor sewing blunders?  I want to buy a smaller fold over elastic for the gussets, but didn't have it available for this one.

This is it on the lowest setting...17 inch rise

This is it at the 18 inch setting..

.

The 19 inch setting...

and the 20 inch setting...

The inside...

and...I'm proud of my gussets...so one more picture.

Check it out, ya'll!

  • I think it looks great and if it's something you'd like to sell I'd be very intrested.

"If a multinational company developed a product that was a nutritionally balanced and delicious food, a wonder drug that both prevented and treated disease, cost almost nothing to produce and could be delivered in quantities controlled by the consumers' needs, the very announcement of their find would send their shares rocketing to the top of the stock market. The scientists who developed the product would win prizes and the wealth and influence of everyone involved would increase dramatically. Women have been producing such a miraculous substance, breastmilk, since the beginning of human existence..."

  • I could use some testers!  I'm worried it is too much like the Thirsties Duo to sell, though.  If it fits my boys, I'd be happy to make for anyone in this group for cost and shipping.  $6 or something like that.  I'm all for trades too!

  • My next step is to try one with snaps instead of the touch tape.  I'm just worried that limits the multiple sizing though.  My baby is 17-18 inches in the waist and my toddler is 19 inches...so it wouldn't be a big deal in my family.

  • INHO snaps are so much better! I don't use any touchtape since getting my snap press. And the sizing on your cover is great! I could never find things to fit my tall skinny DD and this seems perfect. (although she is now ou tof dipes and my kids can't wear PUL)  I do think there is a market for dipes designed for tall kids so I'd say go for it! List it as like a "tall large" or something.

  • I'd be interested in testing for you. My dd is 16 months. I am also diapering my neices and nephews. My SIL has a 12 lb baby, a 35ish lb 11/2 year old and a 4 year old (in XL diapers I don't know his weight).

PM me and we can work something out!

  • I could probably do the same thing with just fleece.  I'd say 1 layer to get the snap sizing affect rather than a double layered fleece diaper.  I'd have to experiment.  I have black fleece.  What is the highest rise you would need and what is he at now?

  • I agree about the tall size!  I'm frustrated with one sized diapers (in particular AIOs) that just don't fit my big boy!  My Happy Heiny is about the only one that I've tried that fits both boys.

As far as snaps...I'm a little puzzled on how I am going to do it.  15 inches to 23 or 25?  Do you think 25 is too big, or should it be just a bit bigger?  My boy is tall, but he has an itty bitty waist at 19 inches!

Here's a RRP diaper I made for Oli the other day.  Just doesn't fit him!  I added an inch to the rise to the next one that I made and it fit great!  I'm so frustrated that I just made him a bunch of dipes and he had a HUGE growth spurt over night!  Nothing fits anymore!  Argh!  By the time I get more done, he'll be potty trained....well...I hope anyway.  That's why I am trying to make diapers that will fit for a long time and many sizes!  Plus I am putting a package together for a friend who is having a baby in April...trying to save cost on material by doing less diapers that will last longer.

Got to love the RRP.  It's very adaptable!

  • I'm way interested in testing too! I too like snaps better... My REAL attraction is the BLACK!!! Please let me know---We still haven't found OS that do us well... (He's always on the LARGEST setting on them, and they get all wonky)... My boy is only 7 months so I think that's strange... Please let me know =)
