Hey Everyone! Im new to diaper sewing and until now I have only made Fleece Dipes. I just received some PUL from Verybaby.com and I just wanted to know if there was anything I should know about sewing PUL before I do tonight or tomorrow(if I chicken out lol).

Thanks everyone :)

OMG yes.

Get wine. Lots of wine.

:) LOL

no really: there should be some tips on Verybaby I beleive on sewing with it

most are:

use a teflon foot and sheets or a walkign foot when sewing on the sticky "right" sides of it.

If those are not available you can try putting tissue paper on each side,. The problem comes when the right side "shiny side" of PUL 'sticks' against the metal o the feeddog and the foot. Thus the teflon foot and sheet.

Go slow and take your time! :)

Wash in hot water when done to seal seams :)

i am sooooooooo new to sewing however ive sewn pul. i have had no trouble at all. sew the fabric shiney side down and u should be fine. dont pin it either u dont want too many holes in it. i washed and dried mine in hot before sewing(not sure if u have too or not i just did) i also dried mine on high heat after i was done sewing to seal up the holes from sewing. good luck.

I've always washed mine before sewing too..but it doesn't shrink, so i've started skipping that step.  I just wash my cottons now.  yes...shiney side down and practice with fleece or flannel as your inner first because pul can be tricky.  I could get 6-8 cuts out of a yard and then would mess up like 2-3 of those!  Oops!  So...trial and error and you'll get the hang of it.  sewing it paired with velour is super tricky.  one trick I did, which made an awesome night time diaper is to do 3 layers of fabric.  one the inside I would do a hidden layer of fleece or flannel (which is the side I sewed on, so I did haven't the problem of the pul slipping because I did it inside out and then turned it to the pul side and top stitched...so much easier!  Also...I DO pin it..but I pin it outside the seam, not the body of it.

Check it out, ya'll!

I make PUL covers with FOE, and I have no problems!  I was anticipating them, but it is surprisingly congenial with my sewing machine.  Sewing on the touchtape is easy, too.
