New baby, New Diaper Sewing!

We are expecting our 3rd baby in August. I made almost all the diapers for or second child (first time CDing) and they all did well. I want diapers that are easier for DH to use (he still struggles with the diaper pins on the covers almost 2 years later).

I've deciede to sew some side snap wool soakers using Darling Diapers Unlimited and some fitteds with Little Bean Bum

I ordered more wool (and elastic) yesterday, as I only had enough felted wool for 4 newborn. I would like 6 newborn, small and medium when baby gets here.

Below are a few photos with my current diaper progress.

/\ Drawing out the newborn pattern in my felted wool

^ 8 pieces cut and ready for the next step!

^ snaps added to the back tabs and stitching done. Now ready to tack on elastic and turn and top stitch!

It feels great to be sewing diapers for baby again!

Goodness, you are way ahead of me and I'm due in July!   I started my tester NB and need to finish it still.   Have to wait for taxes to buy the bulk of my fabric!   :)

I was able to get the wool ($3.99 a yard) and 20 yards of swimsuite elastic ($6.19) cheap.

Does that have any stretch to it?

No stretch, especially after felting.

Here is a complete newborn wool soaker. Originally I was going to use 2 layers of wool, tun and top stitch. However the fabric just wasn't gathering right. I had some fold over elastic on hand, so I decided to give it a try. I think these will still work great, and I'll be able to make more wool soakers with the same amount of fabric.

This is cute! I wish I could make some, but liners are as far as I've gotten in the making my own diapers adventure! Perhaps with taxes I will buy a sewing machine, and then I can try to make some diapers :)
