I have a zipper I bought online not even bothering to check the length of it. it is very long. my question is, would I be able to use it on a wet bag and just sew over the zipper and cut part of it off?? Hope that makes sense.

I do that. But my zippers are also in between layers so the ends are buried, if that makes sense. You just need to make sure the zip pull can not come off the end.

I would sew the end to the inside of the bag just to tack it. But it would work.
