Ok this is probably a silly question..but I am new to all this..Is a serger only used  for serging?  Like you cant just sew like you would on a regular sewing machine?

You can buy machines that do coverstitch and serge, but sergers themselves only serge. You can turn off the blade and 'sew' that way, but its not like a sewing machine at all.

I would recommend getting a book on serging because there is so much you can do with a serger. I know of one lady who pieces together quilts on her serger.
