Is anyone having pain in their lower back now that they are pregnant again? I have a condition known as fibromyalgia and can't take my medication because of the pregnancy so I'm not sure if that's the problem or not but, I have been having pain in my lower back near where I got the epidural w/my son. I had a natural birth w/my daughter but had to have an epidural w/my son and have been having a dull ache in my back. Usually most of my fibro pain is in the top half of my back not the lower.
While I personally can't speak from experience, my sister has always had back aches where she got her epidural w/ her 1st baby. That's part of the reason why she didn't have an epi with her second, because of the long-term pain she is experiencing now.
Google "back pain in epidural site" and it seems to be a problem some women experience. Women talk about this issue quite a bit, but it doesn't seem to be addressed by the medical community or you are given a simple respone of "No, that's impossible". Hmmmm....makes you think.
I do tend to get back pain when pregnant. This is my third pregnancy. I guess it could be from the epidural, but it seems unlikely to me. Especially if you haven't had pain in this area until the latest pregnancy. I did have an epidural with both births. The first birth was horrid. Long story very, very short- the epidural was basically off and I felt everything. I had extreme back labor. The 2nd one was a breeze. Hopefully my body knows what to do now!

I had one eppy with my first dd, it screwed my back up for good. And the medication didn't even work! they tried 9 times to get the needle in my back (the pressure was so bad I'd move).. well my back has never been the same since.
Then with my 2nd DD I had a spinal.(planned c section) Which they numb you.. so you don't feel it. And I had some pain after.. like the feeling of contractions.. HARD contractions for a couple weeks around 10-11 weeks post partum. And since then no issue.
I'm 8 weeks now and have noticed more pain in my lower back.. and not able to stand for long periods. When I do sit down, my back either pops or is in real bad pain.
I think it's from the eppy.

That's what happened with my first.. because I kept moving.. after the 9th time I think the guy was tired and said it was in.. because I never got pain releif and felt everything.

I have had 2 epidurals and I have no back pain. I am sure that I will get back pain eventually, seeing as I am growing a human being inside of me. I plan on getting an epidural again this time around, they are wonderful!
I completely agree w/you! I was in heaven after they gave me my epidural. I'm def. getting one this time around. I have fibromyalgia and can't take my meds while pregnant so I'm now leaning it towards a pain that my meds usually mask. Regardless a little ache in my back isn't going to stop me from the epidural. The last time I was adament not to get one till I couldn't stand it anymore and caved in. My OB looked at me like had grown a third eye when I said no to one at first. This time the first words out of my mouth are going to be "epidural please" lol Thanks ladies for your imput!

I felt everything because when they first gave me the eppi, I couldn't feel enough to push so they turned it down. I was in so much pain from the back labor (no stopping of contractions, just one constant contraction) that I threw up all over my hubby. My head was spinning. The baby was not going anywhere so the midwife had to have the Dr. called in. I was begging for a c-section. He was 30 minutes out. It felt like an eternity. He came in, used the vacuum (a midwife can't) and finally she came out. 9 lbs, 4 oz. I'll never use a midwife again!

I had an epi and also live with chronic back pain- I was a little sensitive around the epi site for a week or so but have had no pain related to the epi since. It sounds like a few of your anesthesiologists didn't know what they were doing. I loved the epi and it actually saved me a c-section. I was refreshed, able to focus well on pushing, and when her head stuck in my pelvis sideways, I was able to stand the hours of laboring down with a head grinding into my side and keep a healthy heart rate. I know that back pain can happen from an epi, but the percentages are low and I wouldn't want to scare people off from it if they're thinking about it. Also, if you look into it, you'll find that low back pain is very very common at this stage in pregnancy. So what you may be attributing to the epi could be a normal part of pregnancy. I know my back is hurting more now, but its clearly due to all the changes.
