Will someone PLEASE throw out Ecclesiastes 1:4?!

4 Generations come and generations go,
       but the earth remains forever.

People keep saying that the earth will be destroyed, but that's not what it says here.  (Thanks Patti--I copied it from your link)

Is this another example of the Bible contradicting itself, or could the church be missing something?

What is the context of the passage (is that the correct term??)?  What point was trying to be made?

So many people take a scripture here and a scripture there, and they come up with a whole new doctrine that way.  Some nuggets are hidden in them, and this was one that was pointed out to me that completely throws out the "futurists" view that the earth is headed for destruction.  It plainly says here that the earth will remain forever.

THAT is what was meant by this verse and the way I use it.
