Patricia Polacco books are so wonderful!  She writes picture books for kids, although I guess they are more like regular fiction for older readers - my library keeps them with the picture books.  She is a Michigan author with a rich heritage from the Ukraine, a lot of her stories are taken from her own life or her family history.  Maddie loves for me to read this aloud to her.  I can highly recommend these books - even adults will like them!

My girls enjoy Skippyjon Jones as well. My 5 year old loves Pinkalicious and Purplicious.

Books by Karma Wilson are great as well especially the bear books. Bear Snores On, etc.
