 So im a 5'2 and have only gained 20lbs so far at 9mos. my baby weighs 4 pound 6 ounces, my due date is jan.11.10 i was recently sent to a specialist just to make sure everything was developed ok, it was baby is healthy in every other way but they feel that she should be 6 pounds as of last week?..if she hasnt put on sufficent amount of wait by next week they want to induce me!!, now i weighed 6 pounds when i was born i have had other doctors say keep her in there unless something is absoulty necessary.?..i have fears that induction will prolong labor, and increase my chances for a c-section which i dont want and i would be the first ever to need one in my entire family!! any advice the whole thing scares me, shes healthyand small like me does that mean get her out!!!.??? help...

I would definitely get multiple opinions about that one hun. I would think that if she really is small, then she should "cook" as long as she can to put on some weight.

Plus, Like you said, you are structurally small.

Me? Im on the opposite spectrum as you. Im 5'9, my hubs is 6'4. And, my daughter weighed in at almost 7 lbs at 35 weeks! Shes easily going to be a very big baby!

Honestly, get more then one opinion.

If its not life or death, the doctors shouldnt be in any hurry to deliver you. My doc mentioned something about induction at my last appt because of my daughters size. Im not interested unless its life or death. I would rather let things go naturally.

Good Luck!

I agree with waiting. As long as she is healthy I dont see any reason for her to come early. I'm sure they are close on her weight, but their measurments may be off alittle. The estimates for my 1st 2 kids were off, so I dont take much stock in thier measurements anyway.

I agree multiple opinions!  Two things I wanted to mention;

1- I am 5'7" and only gained 18lbs with my first baby boy and he came out right on schedule at 7lbs3oz.  I wasn't over weight to begin with infact my final weight at L&D was 156lbs.  So how much weight you are gaining isn't always in line with the baby.  I am 34 weeks with boy #2 (which I have no clue how much he weighs but he feels HUGE,lol) and I just hit the 20lbs mark @ 152lbs, as far as weight gained through out the pregnancy.

2- My sister and her husband are 5'6" and 5'2", they are not petite people just on the shorter side and both her girls were tiny.  The oldest, who is soon to turn 5, was due BEGINING of Dec 04', around the 5th and she went 3 weeks late and came out on the 28th and weighed in at 6lbs.  She ended up beinging completely healthy and everything but there is NO WAY that on Dec 5th she would have been a "full term" baby.

I don't know if the doctors were off or what happened there but waiting is definately your best option for both you and the baby if there are no other health concerns, than she is small.  Sometimes they are off and the baby just needs more time???  Good Luck!
