The way it looks now  is that abortions still won't be paid for by tax dollars.   (Except in cases of rape, incest, and for the life of the mother)  But at least  'On demand' abortions won't be covered.     I say  if pro choicers  want it paid for by someone else  they can set up their own murder fund.

I don't think that taxpayer should be used for abortions either.  Not all taxpayers agree with abortion and so I don't think their money should be used for this.  Of course, there are a lot of other things that I don't think taxpayer should be used for either.

Forty five thousand of your fellow citizens die every year because of a lack of health insurance. Their lives matter too. Abortion is legal, and yes I'm pro choice, and I take great offense at being called a murderer. While I am pro choice I'm no where near being pro abortion. I believe in people being responsible for their sexual activity and using birth control, but those efforts are stymied endlessly by fundamentalist Christians and the Catholic Church in particular who are against birth control, against the teaching of it and certainly against the providing of it. The hypocrisy of the Catholic church in particular, being the wealthiest most powerful anti-abortion voice is offensive in the extreme. This is a church which until 1964 had an official policy of anti-semitism which contributed greatly to what happened to the Jews of Europe during the Second World War. This is a church that has committed more murder in the name of God than any other religious order. This is a church that has nuns and priests on trial now in Rwanda for preaching for the murder of their fellow citizens. If you want to see real change in the numbers of abortions then put pressure on religious organizations to face reality, to stop being so naive and to change their policies relating to birth control.

JEN, JEN, JEN---I think that you're trying to give the Catholic church waaaay too much credit for influencing people. They can't even get their own membership to agree on things such as birth control--at least not in our country.  I only know one Catholic who never used birth control--and I do know a LOT of Catholics.  And talking to Catholics, most don't agree with the church's view on birth control as well as other things. (This probably wasn't the case years ago--I'll give you that much tho).

Pat I agree with you that in countries like yours and mine the Catholic church probably doesn't hold much sway anymore when it comes to the issue of birth control, but where they are having a dangerous effect is in countries in Africa in particular, where their charitable works towards AIDs are only given under the proviso that no condoms are handed out. This is a pope who came out with a statement trying to claim that the use of condoms increases AIDS. Now I am in no way against the individual Catholic, my issues are with the hierarchy, and it isn't helping that once again, here in Canada, a Bishop from Nova Scotia is awaiting trial on child pornography charges, and that while he's awaiting trial he has been given sanctuary at a priest's residence run by the archdiocese of Ottawa....my home town.

I have a problem with persons of the cloth--in any faith(and they are in all faiths)--who are child pornographers.  I don't like one bit how the Catholic church handles their pedephile priests.  I think that is shameful.
