i am a Christian woman...and raise my children as well as i can...to believe and follow the catholic beliefs.
i believe going to church each week, is not only good for the soul, the family and to be one with the community...it is also a time for reflection...it is a time in my stressful week, i get 1 hour of peace and spiritual fulfillment as well as feeling i belong to a family of God and the family of our community...we are all working to make the lives of others around us better by giving what we can to help one another.
my husband, on the other hand is catholic but does not have my beliefs as i do and prefers to gather with the community at the town bowling league with his friends, each week and that is okay with me...he too is learning what is going on in our small community just in a different way...and in his comfort zone and with his own beliefs...as what is right and what is not. i accept his life and how he chooses to live.
i know since i have found the church again, wonderful things has happened for myself in my life. i am a happier person...with the hope, i very much needed in my life...and with that strength we can all acheive great things.
Have a Blessed New Years Day...from our family to yours !
I have to say that I am very happy to see anyone who follows in their beliefs. I am a baptist and have been for many years. When I was younger I also was in the catholic faith but left it back in 1989. It is a great feeling to know that I can turn for help by praying and realizing that God will give me my needs and not my wants.
I am hoping that this forum can be here for everyone who wants to share, looks for advice and friends just seeking each others help.

I am attending RCIA, classes to becme Catholic. My husband was raised Catholic, but left for many years, and attended a protestant church with me. After the death of our son four years ago, he became very bitter, and refused to go to church at all. When we began raising our 3 year old great granddaughter, he had a change of heart, and wanted to return to his original faith. I feel that families should worship together whenever possible, so I agreed to go with him. It was the best decision I ever made. I feel for the first time in my life that I am truly where I belong. It is such a comfort to me. My oldest daughter has end stage liver disease, probably has very little time left, and I begin and end my days with prayers for her, and for my son. I go to mass on Tuesdays and Thursdays when Ela is in daycare, so I can give it my full attention, and it has helped me in so many ways. We are trying to teach her and raise her in the way of the Lord.
I am Greek orthodox and have my own personal beliefs, but do not practice. However, my daughter is Roman Catholic (like her dad) and let me tell you girls, she is 8 years old, physically disabled (she walks but needs assist with braces) and trached (hopefully not permanently), and undergoes back surgeries for scoliosis. HOWEVER, her belief in GOD is one of the wonders that even I cannot comprehend. She loves going to CCD on Monday nights and does not miss it unless a medical emergency arises. She wakes up her father every Sunday and says "get up let's go to church!" Her faith truly has me awed.
Even with all of her issues, she has not allowed it to become negative; she believes that GOD will help her, and he has and is.
Hope you enjoy my story ladies,
Vicky
Wow Vicky, your story really touched my heart...Thanks for sharing that!
I'm Southern Baptist...I was carried as a newborn baby into the church I was raised in for 19 years. I am a Christian and have been very active in church until recently...Currently my elderly mom requires our attention, so I'm out of church and I miss it! I will go back, but I believe that I'm doing what I'm suppose to be doing at this moment in time.

We went to the service for the stations of the cross last night, my first time. It was so moving, and I wanted to learn more about it. If you read my original post, you know most of this is very new to me. But when I googled stations of the cross I found a website that has a woman doing the readings, giving the possible perspective of Mary, the mother of Jesus. It left me in tears. I don't think any of this would be offensive to my protestant friends, because it is all things I had read about and been taught as a child, just not in such depth and all in one place. When we really stop and think about the meaning of Easter, it should bring us to our knees.
I don't know if you ever saw the movie The Passion of the Christ, but if you want to be brought to your knees it is an incredible movie that will do it. I know that what Jesus went through for us was horrible just to save us, but the story really makes me know how much he loves us to endure all that he has gone through to prove his love for us. I am a Christian who knows that he died to save us. I have been a baptist since 1988 and without him I am nothing.

You won't regret it. The only thing I didn't like was that it was spoken in Arabic, but it has the translation at the bottom of the screen. You have to be able to read pretty fast to get it, but if you do, it's well worth it. Not many movies really touch me, but that one did.
Quoting elasmimi:
We talked about that movie in class. I am going to try to rent it soon.
