I was hoping that I could join the post and learn more about military life. My fiance and I had been together almost for 7 year. Things were going so good for us until last year. He was working for same company for 3 year until they laid him off because of enomic time... He finally found two jobs in last Jan but one of job laid him off again.. We both have one year old son and we are worried about future for our son. My fiance was going to join marine when he was in high school. I gave him full support but the problem was his family. When he told them that he was going to join marine. They told him that they will make sure that he wasn't able to join military life. Now he regret for not joining marine when he had chance. So we both discussed and he want to join army. I gave him all of my 100 percent support with his decision. I told him that he need to ask alot of questions with recuiter which he is really bad about that part. His friend told us that training would take 6-8 month for him to complete.  I am thinking about moving back to kansas and stay with my best friend until my fiance graduate his training camp. Once he go to basic camping, what will happen to me and my son?! Will they pay him seperation allowance? I was told that they wont do anything for me and my son until he complete basic training. I had been research online to get information and can't get some answers... I was hoping someone could give me more details so I know what to do next when we see his recuiter..

my husbands basic training was about two months long, and he got paid at the end of the training. We werent married at the time, but even during his other training at AIT he got paid monthly.  So money wasnt a problem for us during the beginning.

You yourself won't get anything since you are only engaged! Your son with him will get a military ID and insurance. I have no idea if he will get separation pay for him or not. He will get a little extra money for having 1 kid. Why don't you get married before all this? That would make it easier! Basic is always about 3 months. AIT can be anywhere from 1 month to 1 year depending on what MOS he chooses - MOS is the job. You can be with him at the recruiters and ask questions also. Or make a list for him. He will have to take the ASVAB test, then go to MEPS which can be a hassle sometimes. Have a drug test, physical and pick his job and then swear in. The Army really isn't taking anyone new right now, so he might not even get in! There are SO many people joining! During basic he can't have a cell phone - can't smoke - can't buy his own stuff. He will have some phone time but it isn't much. He won't have cell service for the first part of AIT either probably until they all earn it! He will lose weight, gain muscle and become a different person! Hopefully for the better! Good luck!

My husband too just joined the Army in December after 10 years of wanting too. As soon as he leaves for Basic he will start recieving a pay check.  You can look up military pay charts it will tell you how much he will get a month based on his rank. Now if you are not married he will only get that amount. Now if you are married he will get the amount on the pay chart as well as housing costs. (which vary from city to city) For example we live in Phoenix AZ and we get 1200 a month in housing. You will also recieve a 300 dollars a month seperation allowance. He will get paid on the 1st and 15th of each month. They will deposit the money into a banking account, that way you could both access the money. For a better example of pay- After taxes and so forht my husband nets about 1370.00 every two weeks and he is an E-2. I hope this helps.
