I would love to know what your kids are reading this year, and what you are reading to your kids?

My daughter is 2, so we do an assortment of books. She likes Eric Carle's books and the fairy tales. She is reading level B on her own. In the process of making a photo/ reading book about her- think she will really like that.

These aren't classics but they sure have gotten my kids hooked!  My 4 & 6 year olds have had me reading the 'Skippy John Jones' books to them over and over again and have the books pretty much memorized and are reading them to other kids now.  I went to visit some family in Texas this past weekend for one of my nieces birthdays.  My 4yr old daughter created quite an uproar when she sat in the big recliner and turned the book towards her cousins and some other family friends who were sitting around her on the floor (ranging in age from 5 to 11yrs.) and read from cover to cover Skippy John Jones and the Big Bones.  She was pointing to the pictures and talking about what was going on as well.  Saying things like, "Skippy doesn't look very happy does he?" as she's pointing to the picture of him sulking on his bed.  Or saying, "There goes Skippy heading into his closet even though his momma told him to stay out." as she's pointing to the picture.  She can't really read that well, but this particular book she has memorized word for word and she looked like a little librarian conducting story hour.  She had parents recording her and everything.  It was pretty funny!

Also, Calvin & Hobbes cartoons have my 6yr old son trying his best to read on his own.  He asks for help when he gets to words like 'transmorgifier' or those other complex combinations Calvin likes to throw around.  But, he'll curl up with a Calvin & Hobbes book for hours.  And I know he's comprehending it too, because he'll start chuckling here and there or get a big smile on his face or come running up to me telling me all about the story.
