So we are trying to get a CC community started here in our area(there are none on the entire peninsula!) Anyway, I am in love with them! I love the theory behind it, and DH does too. I have a ton of questions though. Right now we are using mainly Abeka for DD. She is using their first grade Language arts program, and first grade math. I use a public school curriculum for science and social studies, but I am going to switch that to Elemental Science,(which is new and follows the Trivium), and Galloping the Globe, and maybe Story of the world.

My main question is this....what curriculum do they use? I have a catalog but it doesn't look  like there is an actual curriculum there other than a few workbooks, and history and math. How hard is it to use your own curriculum and still be a part of the CC community? I am planning on investing in the flashcards(Foundations) and maybe the curriculum guide(I have found it used). But I do still like the LA that we have now.

Thanks for all your help and time!!

Hi there and welcome! You are definitely on the right track. Really all you need is the curriculum guide and the flashcards. Reading through the guide will help you understand the program - I know it can be confusing at first. Everything else is totally up to you - that is the beauty of this program. You can use whatever LA, math, etc you want. Everything you do will simply build on what you are learning in CC.

It would be great if you could visit a program once to see what a day looks like. I'm sure you can YouTube it, though. Just to get a feel for the structure a bit. Another idea is to become a member of the online CC community on the website. It would offer a lot of support for doing the program yourself. Good luck and keep us posted! :)

I agree that if at all possible go visit a CC comunity at least once to get a feel of it. Talk to the director about you wanting to start a community. They have training seminars if I remember correctly.

The Director that came here(She is from an area about 3 hours away) said once we get our own Director, we will have a trial run day. There is literally nothing on this side of the Bay(I live in DE). I have talked to some other's who have done CC and loved it, and from what I have heard and read, it sounds amazing. Something my kids would love to get into. Thanks for your help ladies.
