I have a sixteen year old, she wants some clothes for christmas- but our tastes are wildly different so I have trouble shopping for her. Any ideas about what's trendy right now? I would love to buy her at least two or three complete outfits, including some shoes and I stink at this, lol...help!!!

Do you know what stores she likes? If so, you could just go in and ask a saleperson to put an outfit together for you. Then get a gift receipt in case it turns out she doesn't like it.

Several suggestions......

1. Gift card(s)....I don't like giving these but many people do

2. Check out her closet see what colors she likes, style of clothing(tight, loose), shoe size and type(flats, heels, sneakers), and GOOD LUCK! lol

3. GIFT RECEIPTS!!!!!!!!!!! lol

I suggest taking her "window shopping" to see what she likes.  Then go back to buy the items.  Or just get her a gift card and make a day out of going together.

Window shopping is your best friend! lol.

Has she pointed out anything during recent shopping trips?

Thanks ladies! I just had a baby, so we haven't been out window shopping together in a while, and money has been really tight, but perhaps a day of window shopping and lunch is overdue. She's pretty basic, but tends to like black, black, black, lol...which i try to talk her out of, lol...and I would love to see her in something other than jeans, like a dress, but not too "girly" since she's so NOT girly, lol....although I do know she likes plaid, and that seems to be pretty popular right now ( I see a lot of it around anyway).

Have her go to different websites and put together some outfits. My 16 year old DD checks out different stores, on line, and gives me idea's.

Alot of the younger girls are wearing those winter boots that come over their jeans with cute shirts and sweaters. That seems to be popular. Also, I don't know if this is in everywhere, but here in NY, the girls are wearing head bans with pieces of decorative things like a butterfly or peacock, it looks nice and stylish.

I love this idea. I have a granddaughter who has such strange (to me, anyway) taste, I'd given up trying to buy clothes for her, but that's a great tip.
