Lol, I agree with both posters!
I gave up backpacks when I graduated collage. I find that they are not feminine at all, and I would always be worried about being pick pocketed with one.
Now that my DD is out of diapers, I opted for a big "Mom Bag" that fits everything I need. Since it has a slim silhouette and a long shoulder strap, I can be hands free with it. If I am carrying more stuff then fits into it, then I need to give up something and leave it at home.

yup. now i only use them for hiking or camping
When I was younger I had this awesome backpack that had vintage tattoo pin-ups all over it. That thing has seen quite a few grungy floors from seeing bands in the 90's. :) I still have it.
I suppose I sort of carry a backpack if you count my daughter's owl one I take with us when we go places with the kids.
But normally it's my camera bag/ purse.
For hiking or my camera equip...yes. Fashion not really.
I have a lovely pink Lodis backpack purse, and a yellow Dooney (both leather) that I like to use when I/we travel - it's nice to be hands-free when you don't know what the day has in store. As a whole though I'm not a fan of using one everyday as a purse replacement.
