do you always do upper and lower lashes? I often read doing you lower lashes makes you look older or dated or something, but it's like impossible for me NOT to do them.  I don't do like 12 coats, but not doing them feels like doing a full face of makeup minus lip color or something.

I always do both. my eyes are kinda small, so applying mascara to the lower lashes opens up my eyes a bit, to make them appear larger

Might try this instead - use your mascara on the upper as usual.  Then take your eyeliner and go under the lower lashes.  Some people find this easier to handle than having the lower lashes done.

 i get a smear every time i blink, so i just do the upper lashes

I like the bottom lashes to be thick and long :)

yeah, it's not that it's hard for me to do, I don't smear my mascara... I just feel naked with no mascara there. ;) I have done this when I'm doing a kind of "French" look with cta eye liquid liner, pale skin and red lips, so the emphasis in on my upper lashes but still some definition on lower.  You definitely want ultra long wearing liner for it though or it gets smudgey.
