Woman Sleeps in Makeup for a Month & the Results Are Horrifying - Do you sleep in your makeup?
I have some lazy, bad beauty habits, but after seeing photos of one woman's face after she didn't wash her makeup off at night for four weeks (YUCK), I just might be scared straight! This woman slept in her makeup for a month, allowing herself only a "cursory wash in the shower every morning," but no cleansing products and nothing before bed. As you can imagine, after a few days, she already started to have problem with her skin, and after the full month, a dermatologist told her that her skin had aged 10 YEARS!
Now, obviously that's not permanent damage, and even more obviously, this is a really extreme (and pretty gross) situation ...
She was literally applying creams and makeup on OVER the residue of whatever makeup was left on her face, which is just foul. Even when I go to bed without washing my face, I get up and wash it in the morning!
But still ... it made me think that all those times when I'm just too tired (or lazy) to do my little nighttime beauty regime, it's not as harmless as it seems. Who knows, maybe it all really adds up over time?!
There are a few little tricks I have that make it easier NOT to flake out, however, and I'm going to do much better from now on!
1. Wipes. I love facial wipes, yes, I do. Keep them by your bed, as well as in your bathroom! There are SO many to choose from, but a couple you might want to consider are: OLEHENRIKSEN Truth To Go Wipes, which contain antioxidants and anti-aging ingredients ($6 for 10 at Dermstore.com) or the Neutrogena line of wipes (they have something for everyone, from wipes for oily/acne-prone skin to hydrating wipes). ($6.99 for 25; check Neutrogena.com for buying info)
2. Bribe yourself. I just procured the most wonderful facial mist ever, and the thought of getting to mist some on my face actually makes washing my face worth the hassle! It's a limited edition product: Jurlique Rosewater Balancing Mist Intense Deluxe Edition. It feels amazing and smells absolutely divine. If I could afford it, I would stockpile 50 bottles so I'd never run out! ($60 at Jurlique.com)
But roses might not be your thing; maybe you'd love Korres pomegranate toner ($20 at Sephora) or this scrumptious Alba deep cleansing coconut milk facial wash. ($12.95 at AlbaBotanica.com) Whatever it is, find something that really tempts you to the bathroom sink!
3. Don't wait until you're about to drop into bed. If you know you're not going anywhere for the evening except to the couch for a Homeland marathon (oh wait, that was me ALL WEEK!), take care of your skin before you settle in for the night.
Do you ALWAYS wash your face before bed?
